My friend ganesh

A friend of mine works for Public Relations UK, a specialist beauty agency. He’s a very old friend of mine; we went to school together and shared one of my life changing experiences. When we were sixteen years old, we went backpacking in Cornwall together and it was my first real taste of true freedom. We wondered where we wanted to go, made our plans spontaneously, and rested our heads where ever we were when night came. It was amazing, and it gave me much of the confidence I hold as a person today.

However, since joining this PR Company, he has become more and more image conscious. We never cared what we did or how we looked, and of course that does change as you move into adult hood, however the extent to which it has happened is shocking me slightly.
Of course it is important to look presentable, especially in the work place. Someone who looks like they are doing good job is more likely to gain the respect from his colleagues and employers than someone who is working really efficiently but appears to be a big disorganised mess. My friend is taking it too far for me though. I was round his house to visit, and found him searching for ‘weight loss surgery uk’ on his computer. When I asked him about it he admitted that he has decided that he wants to have Chest Reduction surgery. What?! Chest reduction surgery? I tried talking him out of it, but he is convinced that he is too large and that he needs to loose weight. Worse than that, he is currently become unhappy as a person because of his weight. This guy has never had a weight problem, not really. Okay so he’s not the smallest of men, but he’s not fat or overweight at all.

The thing that upsets me was realising that working at this PR place has made him into an unhappy person. Before going there he was pleased with who he was and how he looked. Now he is very subtly miserable.
I am going to support him with his drive to have this surgery done. Why? Because he will be happier once he is smaller. The thing I can’t help but remembering is that the only reason he needs it, is because someone convinced him that he needs it. If he’d never thought about it in the first place, he would have been perfectly happy as he was.

No Award Show – But See Those British Globes Shine!

How sad that the Brits were unable to bask in the glory of such a great night for British acting talent.  The cancelation of the Golden Globe awards show meant that there was none of the usual fuss and glamour of red carpet chitchat and flustered acceptance speeches, but also that the actors were unable to shine in the spotlight of recognition of their work.  For the British who work especially hard for recognition amongst the established American stars, and who get a chance to be shown on our British TV as standing side-by-side with old Hollywood.  Whilst I believe everyone has a right to strike for what they believe to be better working conditions, I can’t help but feel that there are some things that ought to have been left alone – such as the awards ceremonies.  These aren’t about making money, these are about giving recognition where it’s due.  It’s way too bad that in a year when we did so well, the Globes were shadowed by the writers, who if they are successful in their efforts will actually benefit financially from the movies that are getting such acclaim at these awards. I think the only plus side to it was not having to look at the botox and liposuction administered body of the less than sharp Paris Hilton. Let’s hope that when the Oscars come about there’s at least some form of professional decency and they are allowed to go ahead on schedule. As for last night’s Golden Globes –..Go Brits!  Well done!

Will the McCann’s Be Re-Interviewed?

According to Sky.Com news Portuguese police want to re-interview Gerry and Kate McCann and their sources say that an application is being prepared that will seek permission from the Home Secretary to allow them to do so.  Apparently now they are back in the UK, our laws protect them from answering questions that could prove them innocent –.Or guilty.  Whilst there seems little point in the Portuguese police re-interviewing the McCann’s friends who have had plenty of time to get their stories “straight”, current events that are meant to reassert their innocence such as taking drug tests months after their little girl disappeared to prove they have medication in their or their children’s system is a bit late, and Gerry McCann’s claim of a possible stalker he’s just recalled seeing (like you see a possible stalker and leave your children alone?), seem to me to be fuel to the contrary.  Methinks the couple doth protesteth their innocence too much in the light of increasing condemning evidence.

Pride of England

The rugby world cup has ended with England loosing out in the final to South Africa.  Nine points was all that separated the two sides and in the end the South Africans, the stronger side deserved their win.  They played magnificently throughout the tournament.  All observers of the game whichever side they supported could quite clearly say that the Antipodeons were worthy victors of the Web Ellis Cup.

However, England should also look back with pride.  Unlike the national football team, the rugby side never capitulated after the loss in the  first match in the group stages to the South Africans as well.  Since that match they have responded magnificently taking on the world cup with a gusto and perseverance that shocked the rest of the partakers of this competition.  England before the tournament were written off as a weak side past their prime and after that first match, anyone who had said that they would reach the final would have been scoffed at.  But it shows a remarkable amount of faith in the strength of character of the England squad that they never once looked for an easy way out nor did they look for excuses.  Instead they worked together as a team.  They proved to the world their strength of character and refused to give in until the final whistle.  And for some reason they are paid an awful lot less than the football side.
